About Gunns Gunns Limited is Australia's largest fully integrated hardwood forest products company. It owns 175,000 hectares (432,434 acres) of freehold land and manages in excess of 90,000 hectares (222,395 acres) of plantations. The company employs over 1200 people and has a turnover in excess of AU$600million. Over the past 10 years, Gunns has experienced continued growth and is now Australia's largerst hardwood producer. Gunns also operates three veneer factories, a plantations business, has four woodchip export ports and operates Gunns Mitre 10 hardware and building supplies in Tasmania. The Group also has a building contracting company, Hinman Wright and Manser and for the first time expanded into winery operations when they purchased Tamar Ridge Wines in 2003. Gunns in Western Australia is the Group's latest acquisition. Gunns WA is the largest hardwood sawmilling operation in WA, employing around 230 people. The company is involved in the production and distribution of Western Australian jarrah.
Gunns in Western Australia has demonstrated its commmitment to product and service excellence by achieving the coveted International Standard ISO9001:2000 Quality Assurance Certification. To ensure the company operates its business in an environmentally friendly manner, Gunns in WA has achieved Environmental Certification under International Standard ISO 14001:2004. Gunns operates three hardwood sawmills in the south-west of Western Australia, producing jarrah sawn hardwood. Jarrah (E. marginata) is grown only in the south-west of Western Australia. It is reddish-brown in colour, has unique grain patterns and is renowned for its beauty, warmth and durability. Jarrah is used for a wide range of interior and exterior applications. The company operates a processing centre which kiln-dries more than 85 per cent of the sawn jarrah output, for subsequent processing into seasoned decorative products such as furniture timbers, mouldings, panelling, joinery (millwork), jarrah flooring and decking. Gunns operates a distribution yard in the Perth suburb of Welshpool which supplies the Western Australian trade and retail markets.
